Understanding the Procedure

Micro incision cataract surgery (MICS), also known as micro phacoemulsification, is a modern technique for cataract removal that utilizes smaller incisions compared to traditional cataract surgery. The main goals of MICS are to reduce the incision size, minimize trauma to the eye, and promote faster healing and recovery for the patient.

Advantages of Laser treatment

  • Smaller incisions result in faster healing and reduced astigmatism.

  • Quicker recovery and less postoperative discomfort.

  • Lower risk of complications, including infection and inflammation. Preservation of corneal structure and stability.

  • Enhanced control over induced astigmatism. Optimal wound healing and self-sealing incisions.

  • Improved refractive outcomes and visual acuity.

  • Versatile and applicable to various cataract patients.

  • High patient satisfaction due to a more comfortable postoperative experience.

Overview of the Procedure:

Preoperative Assessment involves evaluating the patient's medical history, eye health, and suitability for MICS, along with conducting essential eye exams. Anesthesia and Preparation include administering local or topical anesthesia and maintaining aseptic conditions. Creating small incisions less than 2.0 mm in the cornea is essential for MICS. Capsulorhexis involves creating a circular opening in the lens capsule for cataract access. Phacoemulsification breaks down the cataract using ultrasonic or laser energy and removes emulsified lens fragments through the small incisions. Intraocular Lens (IOL) insertion and proper alignment, followed by irrigation and rinsing, precede self-sealing wound closure without sutures.

Preparing for Surgery:

Provide a complete medical history, including medications, allergies, and existing health conditions.

Instruct fasting from midnight before the surgery and clarify medication use on the morning of the procedure. Guide on correct administration of pre-operative eye drops and stress compliance with the dosing schedule.

Encourage comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and leaving valuables at home; bring only essential items.

Advise contact lens removal per provided timeline and switch to wearing eyeglasses.

Emphasize good hygiene: shower, wash face, and hair before surgery; avoid makeup, lotions, or perfumes on surgery day.

On the Day of the Procedure:

Once registered, you'll sit down with your medical team, revisiting any prior tests and discussing the overall procedure.

Comfort is essential, so wear loose-fitting attire and steer clear of accessories, especially metal-based ones like jewelry.

As a part of routine pre-surgical checks, metrics such as blood pressure and heart rate are assessed.

What Happens During the
Treatment:

Patients often report minimal pain or discomfort during the procedure, and the short duration of the surgery contributes to a generally positive experience. Clear communication with the surgical team and adherence to postoperative care instructions are vital for a smooth recovery and successful outcome.
